Make Do and Mend - a success!

Despite a few ladies not making it last night we still had a great attendance, two ladies became members and we met a new first time visitor.
Everybody managed to make an apron, some with extra pockets and different trims, it was lovely to see the end results. We shared sewing machines, everybody helped each other and there was a really warm feeling of friendship for the whole evening.
This is the apron Jane made as an example, the patterned fabric is a large pocket,
the rose is stitched right through to stop the pocket gaping.
We were all very busy
but there was still time to chat over a cup of tea and a cake

We were all very happy with our finished aprons. some are for gardening, some for crafts and others for gifts

Cupcakes!

Our first craft evening was a huge success, thanks to Sarah Taylor who very kindly came along to demonstrate some cup cake decorating techniques for us. We learned about different types of icing and how to use it to create roses and rose effect toppings. Sarah also showed us how to make a grass effect, on a chocolate cake to look like soil! Great fun was had by all and we were all quite impressed with our cakes, they tasted lovely too!

Natalie brought in some rocky road cake and printed the recipe for us so that we could add it to the folders we made last month.

Happy New Year!

We are very excited about our first evening meeting which will be 6:30pm on Friday 6th January. There will be lots of new members visiting for the first time, existing members will be present to give more information about the WI. We will have a free craft project to make and a display of crafts and projects to come over the rest of the year.
Our newest member, Jane Dean, was interviewed by The Faversham Times about the new evening meetings and was photographed with some of the crafty projects she has made.
We have some great demonstrators, teachers and speakers lined up for 2012, we would love to see new members, there will be something for everyone.

Welcome to our new blog.

We are about to embark on an exciting series of craft demonstrations and classes starting from January 2012 in the hope of attracting some new members of all ages.
We meet at Selling village hall, every second Thursday of each month at 12:30pm but understand that many younger women are working and can't get to daytime meetings. With that in mind we decided to run our craft evenings, they will be held in the village hall at 6:30pm on every third Friday of each month. Hopefully this new time will mean that more ladies will be able to join us.

Our first evening meeting will be 6th January 2012, there will be a free project to make, details of future events and refreshments. WI ladies will be on hand to talk to you about the WI and to take new member subscriptions which cost £31.50 for a year. All ages are welcome, why not come along?
